Bones found may belong to Kartay, missing for 21 years 2015-06-03 12:34:25 DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - An excavation work was launched for missing İbrahim Kartay who had been detained by Turkish soldiers in Hani district of Diyarbakır in 1994 and lost since then. İbrahim Kartay, one of thousands of missing people in Kurdish region, had been detained by Turkish soldiers in Hani district of Diyarbakır in 1994 and lost since then. Human Rights Association (İHD) Diyarbakır Branch and his family applied to Hani Public Prosecution Office for excavation. The guard of graveyard and eye witness told Kartay may have been buried nearby power distribution unit next to the graveyard in the district. The prosecution accepted the application and an excavation was carried out in the region at the morning hours. An expert delegation of the prosecution, Kartay's wife Salime Çakır and his son Edebi Çakır, İHD Diyarbakır Branch Secretary Abdusselam İnceören and lawyer Muhterem Süren stood by during the excavation. Bones found Some bones and shatters of pullover have been found in the aforesaid region during the excavation carried out with machinery and digging tools. After reaching the bones, the excavation was ended. After DNA sample of the family and bones are compared, it will be clear whether the bones belong to Kartay or not. The bones have been sent to Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution for DNA test. (nt)
