UN against arms transfer to any warring side in Syria 2015-06-03 14:20:58 NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - As the aftereffects of a Cumhuriyet newspaper's publication of video footage showing a Syria-bound truck loaded with arms in southern Turkey still reverberate across the country ahead of parliamentary elections on Sunday, a senior United Nations official has said, in the UN's first comment on the incident, that the organization is adamantly against any kind of arms transfer to the warring sides in Syria. Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said the UN's policy regarding the Syria crisis has been very clear from the very start and prefers a peaceful settlement of the conflict. "The fundamental principle of the secretary-general is definite. The UN supports peace-oriented acts for resolution of the conflict in Syria. The UN is against arms shipment to any of the warring sides in Syria," he said in a statement on Tuesday. Dujarric also said the Turkish authorities have not provided any information about the trucks, which belonged to Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MİT) -- neither to officials at the UN or the office of the UN secretary-general.
