Massive farewell for YPG fighter Yılmaz
HAKKARİ (DİHA) - Tens of thousands of people bid farewell to YPG fighter Ahmet Yılmaz in his homeland Hakkari.
The body of the YPG (People's Protection Units) fighter Ahmet Yılmaz (nom de guerre Rêber Dizê) was laid to rest by tens of thousands of people in Hakkari. The fighter lost his life in the clashes with Daesh gangs in Kobanê Canton on 15 October 2015.
Tens of thousands of people including Party of Democratic Regions (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) executives, HDP Hakkari deputy candidates, co-mayors and activists of Peace Mothers Assembly joined the funeral ceremony. The massive crowd cursed Daesh barbaric gangs and their supporter President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan along the funeral ceremony.
The flags of YPG, YPJ, KCK, PKK and posters of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and YPG fighter Yılmaz were carried in the march towards the cemetery. As the march was going on towards the cemetery, the number of mass increased step by step.
The crowd frequently chanted "Long live resistance of YPG/YPJ", and "Martyrs are immortal" along the massive march. The coffin was decorated with the flag of PKK and red, green and yellow roses. One minute silence was held in memory of all those who lost their lives in the struggle of freedom and democracy. The Kurdish national march "Çerxa Şoreşê" was sung.
Speaking in the funeral ceremony HDP Provincal Co-chair Rahmi Temel said, "Our comrades are losing their lives with the bullets sent by AKP to Daesh barbaric gangs. We will resume the struggle in order to keep his memoirs alive".
The family of Yılmaz thanked the participants and condoled the Kurdish people. In the wake of speeches, the funeral ceremony ended amid slogans of "Martyrs do not die".
